Verimicompost – Worm Castings (Organic Fertilizer)

Hello it’s the Agri-Worm guys here to bring you some great news on the benefits of using Vermicompost.

Vermicomposting is primarily earthworm excrement, called castings, which can improve a soil’s biological, chemical, and physical properties. The chemical secretions in the earthworm’s digestive tract help break down soil and organic matter, so the castings contain more nutrients that are immediately available to plants.

Our worm castings come straight from our worm bins. We screen our castings to remove feed particles and other bin materials so you get nothing but pure worm castings.

Worm castings are the best soil supplement. Castings are a beneficial soil conditioner for houseplants, gardens, patio containers, and seedlings.

  • Castings contain numerous micronutrients and trace minerals to promote vigorous plant growth.
  • The humus in the castings extracts toxins, harmful fungi and bacteria from the soil and also has the ability to fight off various plant diseases.
  • Worm castings are also an effective way to repel white flies, aphids, spider mites and many other pests that feed on plant juices. Applying worm castings to the soil around your plants increases the production of a certain enzyme that is offensive to these insects. Although, worm castings do repel certain bugs, it is not an alternative to pesticides. If there is a need to use pesticides, we recommend using non-toxic methods of pest control.
  • Worm castings are all natural and odorless, so they are safe to use around children and pets. In any concentration, it will not burn plants; however, we recommend using it sparingly for the best results.
  • Best of all its organic

How to use worm castings

Worm castings are similar to conventional compost and can be applied in the same way to gardens, lawns, and potted plants.

Seed bedding:

Mix in with soil in seed rows and add water to give seedlings a boost.

Mix with soil into prepared transplant hole, then water.

Top dress your favorite plants with worm castings and the castings will do the rest!!!  Just a little goes a long way!! Loosen the soil around the plant(s) then sprinkle castings around the base of growing plants, not directly touching the plants and give them some water.

How to make liquid organic fertilizer – Worm Compost Tea

Worm compost tea is known mostly for its ability to boost microbiological activity in soil by adding bacteria, fungi, acinomycetes, and protozoa to the soil.

  • Insert 1 cup of castings and 1½ tsp. molasses into a 2 liter bottle. Fill the bottle with non-chlorinated water, leaving about 2 inches of air at the top.
  • Tighten the cap and shake the bottle vigorously to aerate the solution. Remove the cap and leave it off, to let bacteria grow. Unless the cap is removed pressure will build in the bottle as bacteria grows (bacterial growth is a good thing).
  • To aid in bacteria growth, shake the contents vigorously several times a day, removing the cap after agitating the bottle and leaving it off.
  • After 24 hours, the entire contents may be used as a liquid fertilizer. Just apply it to plants and soil.

For best results, the worm tea should be used as quickly as possible. Once the oxygen and food are consumed, anaerobic organisms will begin to take over, producing alcohols and phenols toxic to plants.

What on earth are you waiting for? Try some today and give your plants that needed growth spurt.
